I never had been a big fan of the plays in India even though I have been to some before this. The one’s where the color, lighting (actually over lighting) and music are used to attract people rather than the theme. Mainly it will be absolutely ridiculous fiction or a part of some religious mythology. The kinds of street plays had always fascinated me in how they convey some message without any of these artificial sweeteners, where the dialogue delivery and acting has the utmost importance.
I had been lucky enough to get the chance to go to two such events organized by evam a cultural organization “Butter and Mashed Banana” and “Art”. I didn’t have much of expectations set when I went there because of my above prejudgment about Indian plays. But it turned out that I was completely wrong and that this was the same kind which I liked the most. No artificial sweeteners at all.
Let me talk about evam before I go into the details of the plays.
From their website
“Evam is envisioned to be a stress busting factory – capable of conceiving and delivering an entertaining tale to its audience, in whatever medium it deems suitable– theatre, television or cinema, or delectable combinations of them all!
Currently active in the form of live theatre content; shows for public, corporate’s and fund-raisers, we pride ourselves as an entertaining and engaging marketing communications media for our brand partners!
At Evam, we bust your stress. ps: and have a ball doing it!”
evam is an entertainment factory as they put it providing wholesome entertainment over the weekends. They have their own productions like “Oh God!”, “The Odd Couple”, “Art”, “Always look on the bright side of life!”, “five point someone”, “Hamlet (spoof)”, “And now for Something completely different!”. They also bring good productions from other theatrical group such of the likes of “Butter and Mashed Banana”. evam is not just restricted to doing programs in Chennai rather they do it all over.
So if you are in Chennai and want to do something and enjoy check out if Evam has some entertainment lined up.
Will update you on the plays I saw in my next blog.
Cheers!!!
